Taking a short break

alarm-clockIt’s amazing what a little more sleep can do for you! “Slept in” this morning (6:15 am is sleeping in…), instead of my usual 5 am wakeup for writing or editing. In fact, I am taking a week off of all editing and writing (except for my day job!) in efforts to recharge and hit the ground running next week.

I’ve already finished the first read-through of Forever Thirteen, and tickled that it’s all come together so beautifully. That first read-through is always the scariest. It’s when you get to see your story as a whole for the first time, instead of the 2,000 word snippets put together every day. I made some adjustments in that first read-through to close up a few seams and tighten up the story. But for the most part, I just read.  I look forward to picking it up next week with fresh eyes, enhancing it more before I hand it off to a few beta readers.

Now that I’m on a writing vacation, I’m using my time in other ways – namely reading. I’m beta reading a lovely novel by a friend right now, and getting really engrossed in the storyline. I can’t wait for her publish date so I can share this book with all of you. Her initials are M. M., and I hope she knows I’m talking about her. 🙂

Hopefully I can fit another good book in before my week is up. Perhaps “And the Mountains Echoed”. Or maybe “The Ocean at the End of the Lane”. Need something new, with excellent prose and thoughtful situations…
